Representation

Copy of DSCF0016.JPGThe St Austell District Chamber of Commerce and Industry serves the interests of its members by being spokesperson on a wide range of matters to policy formulating bodies.
For many years, the Chamber has endeavored to influence the local authority and other policy formulating bodies to the benefit of the local business community. The Chamber is represented on, of affiliated to, the following bodies:
Cornish Riviera Tourism Association
Mid-Cornwall Enterprise Trust
Mid-Cornwall Police Liaison Consultative Committee
South Restormel Road Safety Advisory Committee
Devon and Cornwall Chamber of Commerce
St Austell Forum
Restormel Arts(Affiliated to CCI)
Cornwall Business Partnership
Contributions Agency
Restormel Community Safety Strategy
St Austell Pub Watch(Affiliated to CCI)
The Chamber members decide the strategy that the Chamber should adopt when it speaks for them.
St Austell is not represented by a Town Council - therefore many of the issues normally dealt with by a Town Council are addressed by the Chamber.
Matters of concern to the business community are considered by members with particular expertise through Interest Groups and Working Parties. Participation by members in this work is not only welcomed by essential. Subjects covered include infrastructure and commercial development, planning, legal, education, training, retail, manufacturing, transport and tourism. The Chamber welcomes any extra contributions to these particular areas of expertise.
Each Chamber of Commerce throughout the country is an independent body, working exclusively for its own members. However, the St Austell Chamber is affiliated to the regional South West Chamber to ensure that views of the local business community are effectively heard at Regional, National and European levels.
At a more local level, the Chamber endeavors to maintain close working links with the regional offices of Central Government, Cornwall County Council, Restormel Borough Council and other representative bodies. Regular contact is also established with our Member of Parliament - Matthew Taylor - to exchange views and information on Local, National and European matters.
As a result of new legislation, local authorities have a duty to consult with the Chambers of Commerce as well as Town or Parish Councils. The Chamber is often invited to appoint a representative to serve on a Working Party.
Through these contacts and regular meetings with elected members and officers of the various organisations that have a bearing on our daily lives, the Chamber continually seeks to put forward the views of its members.
The Chamber’s objective, as it has been for many years, is to achieve the best possible economic climate for business to prosper.
